Backyard Feathers: The Best of 2015 Birding (Part 2)

“Location, location, location.” ~ Shannon

I continue to be thankful every single day that we went through what we did to buy this property (which just happened to have a nice house on it). It is our little slice of heaven, and the birds really seem to love it. Many of my favorite bird photographs are shot from the inside out — without ever having to put shoes on.

These are the best portraits of 2015 of our property’s regular residents, whose species make up more than 100 birds on our count every year. With a porch feeder, a bird bath, trees galore, and a creek to the back, I have no doubt they’ll stay for a long time. Birding can be done at home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

They deserve a post all on their own, so here’s Part 2.

    1. Wow! Such dazzling little finches! Love their red faces. Our American Goldfinch is ‘drab’ this time of year, but the males are brilliant yellow in the spring. What species are yours?

  1. Absolutely delightful! Really wonderful photos, Shannon, and great species. We don’t have caracaras where I live, and what a treat to see them; same goes for northern cardinals. Really like the photos of the ibis and great-tailed grackle — fantastic!
