Chicken Pox Sleepover

“A friend is what the heart needs all the time.” ~ Henry Van Dyke

When blisters suddenly formed on not one, but two, then three of four girl friends, what would otherwise be a holiday of love and chocolate quickly became a Valentine’s Day Quarantine Get-together.

All of the friends were immunized on schedule, but somehow the Varicella virus — as do many other pathogens  — found its way to survival, even if for a shorter time. Each of the cases are otherwise mild forms of what would be a nasty, weeks-long itchy party, but oatmeal baths, Benedryl, and staying away from people for several days still sucks.

The fourth friend never did contract the illness. But I love Kate’s cartoon marking the occasion!

  1. Hi Shannon! Looking thru some of your old blogs! Funny how the kids got the chicken pox and I did too this year at the end of April. Got them from Brian who had Shingles! I never had them as a child, so I got them as an adult. Absolutely horrible!

    1. Oh know! I was just completely NOT expecting an outbreak among these siblings. You and I didn’t get vaccinated, so my sibs and I all got it at once too! I think our moms’ memories of it may richer. 😀

  2. Oh no, not chickenpox! 😦 I hope they get better soon! I don’t remember having chickenpox as a kid but I will never forget having shingles twice as an adult…no fun at all.
